Why I Will Not Attend the Kanyakine High School Alumni AGM at La Baita Nairobi

Yes, you read that right. The thought of “not attending” should feel unthinkable once we truly understand what alumni gatherings mean, what they unlock, and how they transform lives—not just abroad, but right here at home.

At first glance, the title may sound rebellious, dismissive, or even controversial. But pause for a moment. The reason is not that the Alumni AGM set for Saturday, 25th October 2025 at La Baita Nairobi lacks importance. Far from it. The reality is this: I cannot afford to miss it.

Yes, you read that right. The thought of “not attending” should feel unthinkable once we truly understand what alumni gatherings mean, what they unlock, and how they transform lives—not just abroad, but right here at home.

Why This AGM Matters More Than Ever

An Alumni General Meeting is not about food, chatter, or casual reunions. It is about destiny, legacy, and opportunity. This year’s AGM is particularly important because it provides us with a platform to:

  • Elect new officials who will represent our collective voice, strengthen leadership, and chart the path for a more vibrant alumni association.

  • Share ideas on progress in life—from career growth to business ventures, investments, and professional advancement.

  • Open doors of opportunity—alumni networks across the globe are thriving because they prioritise jobs, mentorships, and business partnerships. Why should Kanyakine High School alumni be left behind?

  • Reflect on our roots—sharing stories of the past is not just nostalgic, it is grounding. It helps us reconnect with where we came from, giving us perspective for the journey ahead.

  • Impact our alma mater—we all know students struggling with school fees, lacking books, or giving up on education altogether. Through alumni initiatives, we can become the bridge that carries them to success.

  • Change the world together—true change does not begin in parliaments or palaces; it begins in small groups of committed individuals who dare to lead, innovate, and support each other.

How the World Sees Us

It is easy to underestimate ourselves when we are inside the circle, but step outside and the story is very different. Alumni from across Meru—Meru School, Nkubu High, Chogoria Boys, Ikuu High and others—often look at Kanyakine High School Alumni Association with admiration, envy, and even amazement.

They are surprised, wowed, and mesmerised by how well organised we appear. They admire that we hold regular meetings, maintain a website, offer an online registration form, and consistently engage with one another. In fact, in the eyes of many across the county, we are the alumni body with the real vibe.

What may feel ordinary to us within the association is seen as extraordinary from the outside. This is a reminder that we already carry the structure, visibility, and potential that others envy—we only need to awaken and channel it for greater impact.

What Other Alumni Are Doing—and Why We Should Learn

Look around the world. Prestigious alumni networks from schools like Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Alliance, and Starehe are not only vibrant but life-changing. Why? Because they understood early that:

  • Alumni are a source of strength—professionally, financially, emotionally.

  • Alumni create opportunities for their members—start-ups funded, jobs shared, mentorship programmes established.

  • Alumni provide unshakable social capital—doors that no CV can open, yet one alumni handshake can.

Think about it: many successful careers, million-dollar businesses, and global opportunities exist today simply because of the power of alumni networks. Why should ours be any different?

The Challenge We Must Face Together

It is true—many of us are not motivated to attend. The reasons are real:

  • Leadership has not always been felt strongly.

  • There has been little that directly impacts members’ lives.

  • Membership fees seem like a cost without clear value.

But here’s the truth: change will not come if we wait for someone else to bring it. We are the ones to breathe new life into this association. By attending, voting, sharing ideas, and contributing, we make the alumni body what we desire it to be.

Why You Cannot Afford to Miss 25th October 2025

This year’s AGM at La Baita Nairobi is not just another meeting—it is an unforgettable opportunity to:

  • Decide the future of Kanyakine High School Alumni Association.

  • Network with professionals, business leaders, and visionaries among us.

  • Position yourself for mentorship, partnerships, and opportunities that could transform your career or business.

  • Be part of a legacy that sponsors struggling students, changes lives, and blesses communities.

  • Rediscover the spirit of unity that makes us more than classmates—we are brothers and sisters bound by a shared heritage.

In life, some opportunities only knock once. The 2025 Alumni AGM is one of them. Those who show up will shape history. Those who miss it will only hear stories of what could have been.

So the real question is not: “Why will you not attend?”
The real question is: How can you possibly stay away?

See you on Saturday, 25th October 2025, at La Baita, Nairobi.
